Şişecam Group hosted Glass Doyens at the International Glass Symposium and ICG Annual Meeting

Şişecam group, which is one of the most established companies in Turkey, hosted the prominet names of the world glass sector in Istanbul. Şişecam Group hosted the annual meeting of the International glass Commission (ICG) concurrently with Turkey's first and only international ‘glass Symposium’ organized 32nd this year.

Vice chairman and General Manager of Şişecam Group Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman stated in his opening speech of the organization where the future of the sector and the new technologies were discussed that the world glass market in recent years has been following a volatile and unpredictable course, and he added that “Despite all these conditions, I believe Sisecam and other sector players have taken important steps to move the glass one step further. Glass has always been a material that adds value to human life. Innovation and R&D studies will be among our priorities in the future as it is today”.

3.10.2017 - Şişecam Group, a global player in its business branches covering all the main areas of glass and soda and chromium compounds, also hosted the annual meeting of the International glass commission (ICG), of which International glass industry representatives, universities and scientific institutions all over the world are the members, during the Şişecam Glass Symposium organized by the 32nd this year. The future of glass sector and new technologies were discussed at Halic Culture and Congress Center during the international organization held between October 23 and 25, 2017.

Vice chairman and General Manager of Şişecam Group Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman pointed out in his opening speech that they are the third largest producer in glassware and the fifth in glass packaging and flat glass in the world today, and said “Besides being one of the 10 largest soda manufacturers in the world, we are also the world leader in chromium chemicals. Our group, which continues its production activities in 13 countries, reinforces its capacity and technological power with the features such as innovation, creativity, expertise and trained manpower and confidently looks forward to the future with its product and service quality in accordance with changing market conditions”.

Prof. Dr. Kırman who stated this important organization that brings together the glass world and academicians in Istanbul is a significant international base that strengthens information exchange and cooperation and added that “The 32nd Şişecam Glass Symposium, where innovations in international glass science and technology are shared, will contribute to the development of the world glass industry. We will continue to provide opportunities to develop global cooperations, establish close relationships and share the latest developments”. He also emphasized the importance of ICG Annual Meeting and pointed out that Şişecam and the other sector players have taken important steps to move the glass forward.

Prof. Kırman who underlined that the world glass market has been following a volatile and unpredictable course in recent years, said that “Despite all these conditions, I believe Sisecam and other sector players have taken important steps to move the glass one step further. Glass has always been a material that adds value to human life. Innovation, R&D, and the academic studies will be among our priorities in the future as it is today”.

“We are the inheritors of Anatolian well-established glass culture”

Prof. Dr. Şener oktik who is the Chairman of Research and Technological Development Center of Sisecam Group pointed out that they have carried out many R&D projects in cooperation with 13 international organizations from 19 countries, and he added that “We are proud to carry out our studies at Şişecam Science and Technology Center, one of the most advanced centers in Europe, which started operations in 2014. There are obstacles in technological, environmental and social areas as well as important opportunities in front of the world glass industry. We believe that this great organization which held in Istanbul with 500 participants, will create a global background where we will share exciting new developments in the field of glass technology. During the symposium, a total of 120 presentations will be held including five parallel sessions, three panels, 30 speeches and 20 posters”.

Prof. Dr. Oktik stated that as Sisecam Group, they are the inheritors of Anatolian well-established glass culture, and he added that “The roots of glass industry in Turkey are based on the Roman period in which priceless glass products were produced. During Ottoman Period, the glass industry was aroused in Topkapı Palace. Glass industry began to develope with the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. Şişecam started its activities by founding the first Glass Production Factory in Beykoz Pasabahce in 1935 with the directives of the founder of our republic, the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Since then, we have increased our power with our dynamic projects and investments in the global markets day by day in line with the principle of ‘our market is the world’. We believe that projects which are open to partnership and cooperation, and supporting technological development through research are the primary factors determining our competitiveness in glass industry”.
