Şişecam Remarked to the Important Role of Glass in the Sustainable Future

The 31st "glass symposium" organized by Şişecam Group was held with a total of 313 participants including 67 academicians from 20 universities in Turkey and abroad. The main theme of the symposium was “Glass in the Sustainable Future” and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman who is the Vice Chairman and General Manager of Sisecam Group made the opening speech and pointed out that the research and technological development studies made by the investments of Şişecam are the most important sources in our country and internationally in the field of glass science and technology.
25.10.2016 – The 31rd “Glass Symposium” organized by Sisecam Group this year was held at Turkiye Iş bankası Tuzla technology and operations center auditorium with a total of 313 participants including 67 academicians from 20 universities in Turkey and abroad. In the symposium, which was performed with the theme of "glass in the sustainable future", and where the prominent representatives of the glass industry and academia were available as speakers, 13 sessions were held and 66 papers were published totally.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet kırman who made the opening speech of the symposium pointed out that they have walked towards the summit with determined steps with the belief that power is in possession of information and technology for 81 years, and he declared that “Today, we are the third largest producer of glassware, fourth in glass packaging and fifth in flat glass in the World. We are the only global company operating in all three of the main areas of the glass sector in the World”.
Research and technological development activities are our driving force in global competition
Mr. Kırman emphasized that with their investments in human resources and infrastructure, the research and technological development activities within Şişecam are the most important sources in the field of glass science and technology in our country and internationally; and he added that “The share of our research and technological development separated from our turnover has increased steadily and reached nearly 1.5 percent in 2015. Our research and technological development activities strengthened by investment in infrastructure that exceeds 40 million TL made for Şişecam Science and Technology Center, and our nearly 250 expert researchers are the driving force of our competition in 44 production centers within 13 countries today”.
Prof. Dr. Sener Oktik who is the Chairman of Research and Technological Development of Sisecam Group pointed out in his speech that they believed in the benefit of sharing knowledge, skills and competences on the national and international scale, and he added “Şişecam glass symposiums organized for 31 years gather up researchers and producers in the field of glass science and technology every year. The 'glass in the sustainable future' theme we chose in 2015 will be the determinant for the content of our symposiums in a permanent way”.
